Dr. Wrinch graduated in 1992, obtaining her DMD degree from the faculty of dentistry at the University of British Columbia. After working a short time in northern British Columbia, she was selected to complete a multi-disciplinary hospital residency at the Montreal General Hospital through McGill University. This residency provided her with advanced training in all the specialties of dentistry including oral surgery, anesthesia, and treatment of medically compromised patients. Dr. Wrinch then moved to Ottawa, working first as an associate dentist while holding staff positions at the Ottawa Civic and Queensway Carleton Hospitals. While there, she chaired the startup of a hospital based geriatric specialty clinic and owned her own practice.
Dr. Wrinch is a member of the Victoria and District Dental Society, the BC Dental Association, the College of Dental Surgeons of BC, the Saanich RV Tucker Gold Study Club, the American Association of Gold Ferriers, the Canadian Association of Restorative Dentists and Prosthodontists, and the Canadian Dental Association. Dr. Wrinch has also held membership in the Advanced Orthodontics Study Club at UBC (six years). She was on staff at the Victoria General and Royal Jubilee Hospitals, and is a fourth year dental student mentor for the Faculty of Dentistry at UBC. In January 2000, Dr. Wrinch opened her private practice in the Royal Oak Shopping Centre. She enjoys the challenge of providing quality conservative family dentistry in a comfortable and friendly environment. Currently, Dr. Wrinch is completing a one year post-graduate certification program in orofacial pain, through the University of Southern California, Herman Ostrow School of Dentistry.
Dr. Wrinch is an avid gardener. She and her husband James have raised six children, now all grown. Dr. Wrinch and her husband enjoy travelling, hiking, small scale farming, and numerous other outdoor activities. In the last few years, Dr. Wrinch has taken up pottery.
Dr. Anna Rankin
We warmly welcome Dr. Anna Rankin to Dogwood Family Dentistry Centre. Dr. Rankin graduated from the University of British Columbia Faculty of Dentistry with a Doctor of Medical Dentistry degree in 2010. Prior to dental school in 2004, she obtained a Bachelor of Science degree in Cell Biology and Genetics with a minor in Psychology from the University of British Columbia. Dr. Rankin was awarded with the following upon her graduation from dental school: the Hanau Excellence in Prosthodontics, the Pierre Fauchard Academy Award for Clinical, Academic Performance and Leadership, the Scotiabank Award for Clinical Performance and the American Academy of Craniofacial Pain Outstanding Senior Student Award.
Raised in the lower mainland of British Columbia, Dr. Rankin, and her husband Carl, relocated to Victoria in order to enjoy the slower pace on Vancouver Island. Since graduation, Dr. Rankin has worked as an associate and has owned her own private practice. She practices all aspects of general dentistry and enjoys caring for patients of all ages. Dr. Rankin receives much gratification by interacting with her patients in a compassionate manner.
Dr. Rankin participates regularly in continuing education courses, in all areas of dentistry to maintain progressive skills in general dentistry. She is a member of the College of Dental Surgeons of British Columbia, the Canadian Dental Association, the American Dental Association, the Victoria and District Dental Society, the Saanich RV Tucker Gold Study Club and the Academy of General Dentistry BC Chapter. Dr. Rankin is also a graduate of the highly esteemed Kois Institute, and has taken courses at the Spear Education Institute. In the past, she has also been a member of the UBC Advanced Orthodontic Study Club (2010-2013) and the Victoria Composite Study Club (2011-2013).
Currently, Dr. Rankin and her husband are busy parents of three young children: her son Brandon, and identical twin girls, Ava and Isla.
Hillary (Certified Dental Assistant)
Born and raised in Victoria, Hillary is a 2018 graduate from the Camosun College Dental Assistant Program. She loves working with children and assisting with oral surgery, and reports that she has had an interest in the dental field since she was very young. In her free time, Hillary loves going to beaches and getting outdoors to explore Vancouver Island. She loves being active and has a passion for yoga, which she attends regularly. Hillary’s other passion is her two cats, Dragon and Bucket. We are appreciative of Hillary’s calm and compassionate nature. She has been a valuable addition to our dental team. Hillary is currently on maternity leave with her young son Bodhi, who was born in December 2020. She and her parnter Brandon are really their time together as new parents.
Avy (Chairside Dental Assistant)
Born in the Philippines, Avy moved with her family to Victoria when she was only 13 years old. Wanting to work in the dental field, Avy left her position as a community home care support worker to start fresh. Now, she is a valuable member of our Dogwood team, working as a chairside dental assistant, while working online through Vancouver Community College to complete her certified dental assistant training. We are grateful for Avy’s gentle and kind manner. Her smiles and calm demeanor have endeared her to us all. Avy and her husband Bek enjoy exploring Vancouver Island together.
Camille (Dental Assistant)
Born in the Philippines, our small but mighty Camille moved to Canada with her family in 2009. After attending school for cooking and flight attendant training, she has found her way into the dental world — and the Dogwood team has benefited greatly from her decision to shift careers. She is currently working online through Vancouver Community College to obtain her certification in dental assisting. Camille’s fast energy, desire to learn and high level infection control skills are a bonus to our patients. Her hobbies include travelling and spending time with husband JC her three small children.
Janet (Registered Dental Hygienist)
Janet is a 1991 graduate of the Vancouver Community College dental hygiene program in Vancouver. With over 20 years of hygiene experience and some prior years of dental assisting, we are lucky to have such a gentle and qualified dental team member. Her attention to detail and enthusiasm to maintain high and current standards in the profession of periodontics are truly appreciated by her patients and dental team. Janet's practice in our office allows her to be able to spend valuable time with her children, at school and with their many activities. Janet and her husband Gavin have two grown daughters, Celine and Katie.
Marianne (Registered Dental Hygienist)
Marianne graduated from Cegep de l'Outaouais in Gatineau, Quebec in 2014, obtaining her dental hygiene diploma. Hailing from Saint-Lin-Laurentides in the Laurentians, north of Montreal, she started her dental hygienist career in Gatineau, working for a number of family dental practices, before moving to Victoria with her partner. Marianne's calm, gentle and easy-going manner has been welcomed by patients and our dental team. Both fans of snowboarding, hiking and trekking, camping and other outside activities, Marianne and her partner Neil have now left behind the outdoor fun after having had their son Adam. Marianne will be going on her second maternity leave in July 2021.
Emily (Registered Dental Hygienist)
Emily graduated from the Camosun College Dental Hygiene program in 2020, and has been working with our team since that time. Upon graduation, Emily was recipient of the Community Dental Health award, provided by Elsevier Science Canada. Her gentle touch, and thorough record keeping has been most welcomed by our patients. Born and raised in Vietnam, Emily and her family moved to Victoria in 2013. Outside of the dental office, Emily loves to travel, hike, visit beaches, and cook. She enjoys meeting new people and attending the many social events and festivals typically offered in Victoria (like the rest of the world, she is looking very forward to the end of the covid pandemic). We are pleased to have Emily as a member of our strong and capable hygiene team.
Sabrina (Receptionist)
Sabrina, our friendly receptionist, is a native of Victoria, having graduated from CDI College in 2004 from the certified dental assisting program. Since that time, she has acquired much experience including working in paediatric dentistry, and at the University of Alberta Dental Clinic with residents and staff dentists. Sabrina’s lively personality, competence and ability to connect well with patients has been a huge asset to our dental practice. We are delighted to have her as an integral part of our team, keeping us organized and with high morale at all times. Sabrina and her husband Randy, have one very cute little son, Leland, who has become another member of our Dogwood family of children.
Shelley (Receptionist)
Shelley joined the team in September 2020, and has come to our office with over 23 years of dental office reception experience. Her attention to detail and calm demeanor have been welcomed skills to our front end dream team. Shelley was born on Vancouver Island and has lived her entire life on the south coast of British Columbia. She loves to garden, read and do home renovation projects. Now that their son is a young adult, Shelley and her husband have time to explore the local beaches and parks (where she will often leave her husband enjoying the views while she wanders off with her camera). They also both love travelling. Shelley has also spent time studying Spanish. We are grateful to have Shelley on the Dogwood team.
